Sunflowers are one of the happiest of all flowers. The large face like blooms will bring a smile to anyone’s face. Although they are common, the sunflower has lots of great qualities. Sunflowers are big and bright, Sunflowers are easy to grow, Sunflowers make people happy and are a long lasting flower. 

Distinctly known for their bright yellow petals and dark centre, there are a few different variegated varieties available but are not as common. Sunflowers come in a range of sizes, some are quite small but others can grow to the size of a dinner plate! 

Sunflowers look great in a big vase and will last up to 2 weeks. Changing the water regularly is a must with Sunflowers as the stems can rot easily so by trimming the stems and changing the water you will avoid this.

Sunflowers make the perfect gift to brighten someone’s day, they are so bright and happy. 

Growing Sunflowers

Sunflowers are annuals and can be easily grown from seeds. Plant the sunflower seeds in a well drained sunny position in the garden. The seeds can be sown in late Spring – Early Summer when the soil is starting to warm up. Water the seeds regularly and keep the garden bed weed free. Water with a liquid fertiliser every 2-3 weeks to boost the height of the Sunflowers.
