About Northmead

Northmead is a suburb of Greater Western Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. 

It is situated 26 kilometers west of the central business district of Sydney, in the local government area of Parramatta City.

History of Northmead

This place was originally part of the Government House domain, with the British settlement of Parramatta. 

The Government House remains in the property, which became part of Parramatta Park. 

The word Northmead is taken from the place of the governor`s territory of the north meaning "mead" or meadow. 

The field was split between 1859 and 1889, and the Northern Meadow and Western Meadow were separated between Northmead and Westmead. 

In the same years, George Oakes, Nat Payten and William Fullagar founded the orchards.
