The name Lane Cove has several possibilities of its origin.
The first written use of the name `Lane Cove` was recorded by Lieutenant William Bradley. He got it after he had just sailed along the river. Some suggest it was named after Lieutenant Michael Lane, a respected cartographer who worked with Captain James Cook.
However, the name stuck, and was being used to refer to all the land north of the river by the 1800s.
